Inside North Korea

(Mar. 26) The North Korean Central News Agency reported, “The Cabinet recently adopted the enforcement regulations of the Maritime Supervisory Act regarding the safety of vessels and the prevention of environmental pollution by vessels.”

(Mar. 29) The North Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported, “Kim Jung Sook Educational University in Yanggangdo and Pyeongseong Educational University in South Pyeongan Province are exerting efforts through ideology education projects to firmly train students as warriors defending the leader with a do-or-die spirit.”

(Mar. 30) The North Korean Central News Agency reported, “Youths and students marched on March 30 to honor the pledge made to Kim Jeong-il in a meeting of members of the youth vanguard for the Songun revolution and to thoroughly fulfill the grand task presented in the congratulatory letter sent by the WPK Central Committee to the participants in the march.”

(Mar. 31) The North Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported, “It has been 25 weeks since Kim Jeong-il’s work, On the Juche Ideology, was published.” It further propagandized, “The Juche ideology is a grand ideology that launched a new era and an independent era in history, and is an eternal guiding ideology for our [the DPRK’s] party and revolution.”

Outside North Korea

(Mar. 26) The North Korean Central News Agency blasted, “The fact that Japan, which does not genuinely wish success for the six-party talks, is a member nation in the talks, is a paradox. Japan, which goes against the trend of the times, is not qualified to take part in a dialogue for peace and security.”

(Mar. 27) The North Korean Central News Agency reported, “In accordance with a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, Ri In-seok was appointed DPRK ambassador to Cambodia.

(Mar. 27) The North Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported, “The protocols of the fourth meeting of the Committee on Cooperation in Trade, Economy, Science & Technology between the North Korean government and the Russian federal government were signed in Moscow on March 23.”

(Mar. 30) In a commentary, the North Korean Central News Agency contended, “We [the DPRK] participated in the six-party talks not for any other purpose but to realize the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and to regain rights to our [the DPRK’s] legitimate funds.”

Inter-Korean Issues

(Mar. 27) In an interview with the North Korean Central News Agency, a spokesperson for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland blasted, “The fact that the Grand National Party, which was madly embroiled in the confrontational maneuvers against the DPRK, is seeking to mediate policy on North Korea is yet another charade to conceal its heinous identity.”

(Mar. 28) North Korea’s Pyongyang Broadcasting Service blasted, “The joint military rehearsals RSOI and Foal Eagle staged by the United States and South Korea since March 25 are audacious joint war games aimed at launching preemptive attacks and exerting a military influence on the DPRK.”

(Mar. 29) North Korea’s Pyongyang Broadcasting Service reported, “In accordance with an agreement reached at the 20th inter-Korean ministerial talks, the fifth round of video meetings of separated families and relatives was held from March 27 to March 29.”
