o Inside North Korea
(Feb. 19) North Korea’s Rodong Shinmun contended, "This year marks the 33rd anniversary of Kim Jeong-il’s announcement of the general principle of imbuing all of society with the Juche [self-reliance] ideology.” It went on to say, "Today, our [North Korea’s] national might is being extraordinarily strengthened and the dignity and honor of the country and its people have reached their apex.”
(Feb. 23) North Korea’s Rodong Shinmun propagandized, "all efforts are converging on preparing for farming in Janggang-gun, Jagang-do. Cooperative farms are strenuously engaging in a battle to produce humus soil."
(Feb. 24) North Korean Central TV reported, "A reporting rally commemorating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Korea Art Film Studio was held at the People’s Cultural Palace, with Party Secretary Choi Tae-bok on hand. The studio was urged to produce more monumental masterpiece films and a written vow to Kim Jeong-il was adopted.”
(Feb. 24) The North Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported, "On February 23, 60,000 ㎥ of blasting was successfully conducted at the Mirubeol waterway construction site through the dedicated struggle of the combatants of the Shingye Battalion of the Hwanghaebuk-do Brigade."
(Feb. 25) North Korea’s Rodong Shinmun stressed, "What is important for swiftly enhancing the quality of the people’s life is to uphold farming as the elemental base of the whole world and achieve epochal progress in the endeavor to resolve the people’s food issue. A solution to the issue must be realized under the principle of self-reliant rehabilitation.”
o Outside North Korea
(Feb. 19) In a statement, a spokesperson for the North Korean Foreign Ministry criticized, "The Japanese government has recently launched an extremely grave crackdown on the pro-Pyongyang General Association of Korean Residents in Japan as well as North Koreans living in Japan. Our [North Korea’s] military and people will not sit idly by and Abe and his associates will certainly pay the price for this.”
(Feb. 22) The North Korean Central News Agency criticized, "The US decision to increase the expenditures and broadcasting hours of broadcasting companies specializing in propaganda against our republic indicates that it is making more overt maneuvers to rip apart our [North Korea’s] socialist fabric.”
(Feb. 24) North Korea’s Rodong Shinmun emphasized, "The US is the very party aggravating political circumstances and fostering the risk of war on the Korean peninsula.” It emphasized, "Our republic [North Korea] is determined to abide by the principle of ‘dialogue for dialogue and power for power.’ The US must clarify its position regarding which path it will take: dialogue or military means."
(Feb. 25) North Korea’s Rodong Shinmun denounced, "Globalization is a neo-colonialist system that restricts other countries, suffocates the autonomy and national traits of other countries and peoples, and makes developing countries slaves of western multinational monopolistic entities under the pretext of co-prosperity."
o Inter-Korean Issues
(Feb. 20) North Korea’s Rodong Shinmun argued, "South Korea’s abolishment of its anti-unification National Security Act is a prerequisite for furthering national reconciliation and unity and promoting the task of autonomous unification. The Act itself poses a hurdle to peaceful unification.”
(Feb. 24) The North Korean Central News Agency reported, "The South and North Korean and overseas headquarters of the People’s United Front held a special meeting of the co-chairmen group by fax on February 23 to discuss the direction of activities for 2007.”
(Feb. 24) The North Korean Central Broadcasting Station made the inflammatory comment that "we will advance the date for ending the humiliating history of forceful occupation by foreign powers on this land by fueling the flames of the struggle for the withdrawal of US forces this year with nationalistic pride and patriotic determination.”
(Feb. 25) The North Korean Pyongyang Broadcasting Service claimed, "The South Korean headquarters of the People’s United Front, marking the 12th anniversary of its establishment, has enthusiastically drawn a wide spectrum of the population to its patriotic movement for unification and contributed to enhancing the competencies that promote autonomous and patriotic unification in unity and collaboration with North Korean and overseas pro-unification groups.”
