- (Feb. 2) The North Korean Central News Agency reported, "With members of the Cabinet including Cabinet Premier Park Bong-ju and ministers on hand, an extended Cabinet plenary session was held. The attendees discussed how to thoroughly implement plans for the people’s economy for 2006 as well as combatant tasks put forward in this year’s joint editorial, and debated how to resolve the food issue and increase the production of consumables for the people.”

It also said, "The participants will act in concert with the fatherland, which struggles and advances with the spirit of Taecheon. By formulating and executing organized political projects and inducing enterprise employees to work proactively for the construction of a self-reliant, strong and prosperous country, they will fully fulfill their mission and duty as workers of the military-first era."

o Outside North Korea

- (Jan. 29) The North Korean Pyongyang Broadcasting Service argued, "Japan’s undesirable amendment of its Constitution is a very serious problem that jeopardizes the peace and safety of not only the Korean peninsula, but also Northeast Asia and other parts of the world. Japanese government officials must act in their reasonable discretion by bearing in mind that reckless armament and maneuvers for overseas expansion will bring the country a shameful downfall.”

- (Jan. 30) The North Korean Central News Agency maintained, "Japan’s bid to gain permanent membership in the UN Security Council is tantamount to a criminal’s attempt to become a judge." It went on to say, "If Japan becomes a permanent member of the UN Security Council, it may bring disaster to the entire world. Furthermore, it may damage the authority of the UN. It would therefore be advisable for Japan to abandon its wild dream.”

- (Feb. 3) A spokesperson for the Korean Federation of Educational and Cultural Trade Unions issued a statement lashing out at the US. The statement reads, "The fact that the US is using So Far From the Bamboo Grove, a novel in which historical facts are fabricated and distorted by Japanese war criminals, as a middle school textbook represents an unbearable derision of Korean people as well a denial of history."

o Inter-Korean Issues

- (Jan. 30) The North Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported, "The 6th Winter Asian Games opened in the city of Changchun, Jilin Province on January 28. The committee suggested to its southern and overseas counterparts that a joint inter-Korean event commemorating the 7th anniversary of the June 15 Joint Declaration be held in Pyongyang, and the August 15 unification event be hosted by the South. It was also proposed that a meeting of the June 15 National Joint Committee be held as soon as possible to discuss the direction for this year’s movement for unification of the fatherland."

- (Feb. 1) The North Korean Central Broadcasting Station stressed, "The 15th general meeting of the North Korean HQ Central Committee of the People’s United Front was held in Pyongyang on January 31. All Koreans must stand united under the banner of the June 15 Joint Declaration and unflinchingly undertake the three major tasks for unification of the fatherland." It also reported, "Kim Yoo-ho, head of the foreign brethren bureau, was elected chairperson of the North Korean HQ of the People’s United Front.”

- (Feb. 2) North Korea’s Rodong Shinmun contended, "The case of the People’s Revolution Party is merely a familiar example of South Korean fascist dictators’ brutal manslaughters." It inflammatorily argued, "The South Korean people must step up their struggle against the Grand National Party for the toppling of fascist dictators.”
