o Inside North Korea
- The North Korean Central News Agency (Jan.15-21) reported that "Kim Jeong-il made an inspection of the commands of the 593 Combined Military Unit and the 398 Military Unit and then visited plants in the city of Heecheon including Heecheon Machinery Factory in Jagang-do, Combined Youth Electric Company and Heecheon Porcelain Factory as well as Taekcheon Electric Power Plant IV newly built in Pyeonganbuk-do.”
- The Central Broadcasting Station (Jan.16) underlined that "all workers and laborers must implement the slogan of self-reliant rehabilitation and the policy of the Workers’ Party to put high priority on science as a means to push ahead with creation of a economically prosperous socialist nation.”
o Outside North Korea
- The North Korean Central News Agency (Jan.17) said in its commentary, “Recently, it was revealed that the U.S was the source of fake dollars, raising a controversy.” It went on to say, "This demonstrates that maneuvers against the DPRK in connection with its alleged forgery of dollar bills have been made and executed by the U.S. The allegation that the DPRK has produced fake dollar bills is an ungrounded story made up by the U.S.”
- The North Korean Central News Agency (Jan.19) reported that "Regarding progress of the DPRK-U.S. talks held in Berlin, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry replied to a question by a North Korean Central News Agency reporter on January 19 that the talks were held sincerely on January 16 - 18 in a positive atmosphere. He also said that the two sides worked out certain agreement, adding that the direct dialogue between the DPRK and the U.S. to resolve outstanding nuclear issues drew keen attention.”
o Inter-Korean Issues
- Quoting a joint statement by the government, political parties and other organizations in the country, the North Korean Central News Agency (Jan.17) emphasized, "Brothers and sisters in South Korea must forge a grand union against conservatives in order to deter and destroy conservative elements’ intrigue to regain power." It also said, "All Koreans must further pave the way for mutual visits opened by the June 16 Joint Declaration and give a boost to inter-Korean cooperation projects including tourism of Mt. Geumgang and construction of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.”
- Rodong Shinmun (Jan. 20) said in its editorial that “No matter how vehement an offensive against reunification made by disrupting factors wage internally and externally, patriotic elements in favor of reunification who abide by and implement the Joint Declaration will be the victor." It also said, "Any criticism or slander of the Joint Declaration must not be overlooked and the Joint Declaration should be safeguarded to the fullest possible extent.”
