2007 South-North Korean Summit

  • President Roh Moo-hyun and Chairman Kim Jong Il held the 2007 South-North Korean Summit in Pyongyang from October 2 to 4.

Internal Affairs

  • North Korean Central Television reported on October 1 that shock brigade members are making innovation in construction to build waterway on the Miru Plain.
  • Pyongyang Broadcasting Services reported on October 2 that scientists and engineers are getting excellent results that will contribute to developing basic industry.
  • Pyongyang Broadcasting Services reported on October 3 that ceremony for the National Foundation Day was held at Tangun’s tomb in Gangdong-gun, Pyongyang on October 3.
  • North Korea praised Kim Jong Il’s achievements made under his leadership and emphasized carrying out socialist cause through the Party’s leadership.

Foreign Affairs

  • Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs Choe Su Hon addressed at the foreign ministers meeting of the Group of 77 on September 27 and emphasized that North Korea will carry out its responsibility and duty to expand and develop South-South Cooperation.
  • Through a comment in Rodong Sinmun , North Korea maintained that liquidating the past is Japan ’s legal and moral responsibility and historic task.
  • At the keynote address at the 62 nd UN General Assembly on October 2, Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs Choe Su Hon maintained that giving up operating Yongbyon nuclear facilities according to the February 13 Agreement is North Korea’s decisive measure to realize non-nuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
  • Participating nations of the six-party talks held the second round meeting of the 6 th six-party talks from September 27 to 30 and adopted the second-phase measure for implementation of the September 19 Joint Declaration on October 3.
  • During September the number of foreign delegations’ visit to North Korea was significantly increased compared to the previous month, recording 23.
