Internal Affairs

  • The Korean Central News Agency reported on August 25 that the Central Statistic Bureau made an official announcement on August 25 about the flood damage caused by a local downpour.
  • The Central Broadcasting Station reported on August 27 that the performance “Arirang” was suspended temporarily on the ground that workers should be mobilized for the flood damage restoration.

Inter-Korean Affairs

  • According to the report by the Central Broadcasting Station on August 30, the spokesperson of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland announced a statement on August 30 to criticize the South’s Grand National Party for its stance on the 2 nd Inter-Korean Summit Meeting.
  • According to the report by the Korean Central News Agency on August 31, the spokesperson of the North Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation announced a statement on August 31, criticizing the South’s group which is related to kidnappings issue for trying to lay a resolution before the U.S. Congress to urge for confirming whether or not those who were kidnapped to the North during the Korean War exist and repatriating them to the South.

Foreign Affairs

  • Through a statement by the spokesperson of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland on August 2 and other reports by several media, North Korea criticized sharply the U.S. for Ulchi Focus Lense which has been carried out by the South and the U.S. jointly on an annual basis.
  • Through the reports by the Central Broadcasting Station, Pyongyang Broadcasting Services, and the Rodong Daily from August 25 to 29, North Korea condemned Japan for pursuing revival of militarism by building up military force and revising its Constitution regarding war.
  • North Korea reported the flood damage in detail through diverse media, saying it was the unprecedented damage during the past ten years.
  • North Korean delegation led by Health Minister Choi Chang-sik visited Bhutan to participate in the 25 th WHO South East Asian Health Ministers Meeting on August 31 and the 60 th Regional General Meeting from September 1 to 3. In addition, the delegation of the Korean Red Cross Society participated in East Asia Red Cross Leaders Meeting from August 30 to 31.
At the 2 nd U.S-North Korea working group meeting on normalization of the bilateral relations which was held in Geneva from September 1 to 2, the two sides discussed the implementation of the second phase of the non-nuclearization and normalization of the bilateral ties
