DPRK Hit by Unceasing Torrential Rain

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- Many parts of the country are hard hit by continuous torrential rain.
    According to the information available from an institution concerned, the rainfall from 0:00 of August 7 to 23:00 of August 12 registered 662mm in Phyonggang County and 422mm in Chonnae County, Kangwon Province and 672mm in Pukchang County, 621mm in Tokchon City, 592mm in Phyongsong City, 570mm in Yangdok County, 529mm in Maengsan County and 452mm in Sunchon City, South Phyongan Province and 592mm in Sinphyong County, 476mm in Sohung County, 467mm in Singye County and 406mm in Suan County, North Hwanghae Province and 399mm in Jongphyong County, 389mm in Kumya County, 336mm in Hamhung City, 309mm in Hongwon County and 304mm in Sinhung County, South Hamgyong Province and over 460mm in Pyongyang.
    Jangyon County and Ryongyon County and various other counties in South Hwanghae Province were struck by torrential rain registering over 60, more than 90mm at maximum per hour.
    As a result, the farm land in those areas was inundated, washed away and buried under silt and dwelling houses, public buildings, production establishments and other objects were completely or partly destroyed.
    This torrential rain also destroyed railways and main roads in the country, suspended power supply and cut off the communications among provinces, cities and counties.
    The damage by the unceasing heavy rain is now on the steady increase.
