Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-site guidance to the Tanchon Mining Machine Plant and the Tanchon Smeltery.
The first leg of his guidance was the Tanchon Mining Machine Plant.
After being briefed on the history of the plant at the room devoted to its history, he went round production processes including the large processing shop to acquaint himself with the technical equipment of the plant and production there.
He praised the workers of the plant for having provided equipment and accessories to the mines in the area of Tanchon in good time over the last nearly six decades, thus making a great contribution to increasing the mineral production, and manufactured by themselves many machine tools including a 10m turning lathe.
In order to satisfactorily provide those mines with equipment and accessories as required by the reality in which the production is on the steady increase there, it is necessary to undertake the overall technological updating of the plant in a big way at a lightning tempo, he said, indicating tasks to be implemented by it and ways to do so.
The next leg of his guidance was the Tanchon Smeltery.
After visiting the room devoted to the history of the smeltery, he went round the computer control room and various other updated processes to acquaint himself with its technological updating and production there.
He highly appreciated the efforts made by the workers and builders of the smeltery, expressing great satisfaction over the fact that they have successfully built the ultra-modern smeltery which would win even the admiration of posterity.
Noting that such signal turn effected at the smeltery as sharply boosting the production through its technological updating proved the principle governing the IT age that science and technology are immediately production and vise-versa, he emphasized that only when the nation's science and technology are closely combined with production, can they serve as a powerful engine propelling the revolution and construction and provide a technological and scientific guarantee for the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
Noting that the smeltery holds an important position in the nation's economic development, he set forth tasks to be implemented by it.
He stressed that the most important task facing the smeltery is to steadily keep the production going at a high rate and, at the same time, actively introduce advanced technology to collect all the valuable metals.
In order to operate in full capacity the smeltery which has markedly increased its production capacity by putting its production processes on a modern and scientific basis, it is necessary for the mines in the area of Tanchon including the Komdok Mine to supply a sufficient quantity of quality concentrated ore to the smeltery.
He was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Pak Nam Gi, department director of the C.C., WPK.
