Projected U.S.-S. Korea Joint Military Exercises Blasted

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, August 8 (KCNA) -- The U.S. plan to stage large-scale joint military exercises targeted against the DPRK in collusion with the south Korean authorities is a serious military provocation against the DPRK, an outright hostile acts to it and an intolerable criminal act of harassing the process of detente and peace on the Korean Peninsula. Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says this in a signed commentary.
    It goes on:
It is known to everybody that each time the U.S. and south Korean warmongers staged the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises in south Korea every year the situation on the Korean Peninsula inched closer to the brink of war and they hamstrung the process for reunification including the inter-Korean dialogue.
The U.S. claims that the joint military maneuvers are "annual events" and a "commanding post drill" in a bid to cover up their aggressive and provocative nature but it is nothing but sheer sophism.
The U.S. projected "Ulji Focus Lens" is little short of a declaration on torpedoing dialogue and a declaration of war as it reveals its aggressive design to threaten the DPRK by force of arms and comprehensively examine and round off its preparations for mounting a preemptive attack on it.
The south Korean authorities' plan to stage the above-said provocative saber rattling against compatriots in collusion with outside forces are an open denial of the June 15 joint declaration and an outright challenge to peace and cause of reunification. It is an invariable stand and will of the DPRK to respond to good faith in kind and react to any provocation with merciless punishment.
The U.S. and the south Korean authorities would be well advised to cancel at once their plan for the above-said provocative war exercises, cogitating over the grave impact their reckless actions will have on the settlement of the nuclear issue and the development of the inter-Korean relations.
