Internal Affairs

  • According to the reports by the Rodong Daily on July 11 and the Central Broadcasting Station on July 16, cocoon plants in Jagangdo are concentrating their capabilities on increasing the production of cocoon.
  • The Central Broadcasting Station reported on July 16 that Orascom Construction Industries of Egypt signed an equity joint venture contract with North Korean Pyongyang Myongdang Trading Corporation on July 13 to modernize and rehabilitate Sangwon Cement.

Inter-Korean Affairs

  • On July 17, the Central Broadcasting Station criticized the South’s Grand National Party for discussing turnover of policies toward the North, saying it is for presidential election.
  • Through the report by Pyongyang Broadcasting Services on July 19, North Korea maintained that the assertion of the North’s invasion of the South during the Korean War is scheme and invention.

Foreign Affairs

  • North Korea and Montenegro agreed to establish diplomatic relationship at an ambassador level on July 16.
  • Through the statement announced by the spokesperson of the History Society of the DPRK on July 14 regarding the 100 th anniversary of the Hague Emissary Incident, report by the Central Broadcasting Station on July 17, and report by Chosun Sinbo on July 18, North Korea criticized Japan for publishing Defense White Paper and causing trouble in implementing the February 13 Agreement.
  • In the report by Tongil-Shinbo on July 14, North Korea criticized the U.S. for raising suspension of the North’s diversion of UN fund, saying it is intentional and provocative action to break successful implementation of the February 13 Agreement and create the tension on the Korean peninsula.
  • At the six party talks held in Beijing from July 18 to 20, the DPRK chief delegate Kim Gyekwan maintained that light water reactor is needed to dismantle the nuclear facilities in Yongbyun.
  • The Central Broadcasting Station reported on July 21 that the standing committee chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly Kim Young-nam made a formal visit to Mongolia invited by its president Nambaryn Enkhbayar on July 20 and discussed improvement of the relationships between the two nations and matters of common interest.
