Internal Affairs

  • According to the reports by the Central Broadcasting Station and Pyongyang Broadcasting Services on June 18, central reporting session was held at April 25 House of Culture, commemorating the 43 rd anniversary of beginning the party’s work by Chairman Kim Jeong-il.
  • The Central Broadcasting Station reported on June 18 that silk-farming is being carried out at several regions including Jagando.
  • According to the report by Chosun Sinbo on June 20, the invention bureau of the Academy of Science announced that during the first half of this year, 500 cases of invention and 1,000cases of new technology and design were registered through deliberation.

Inter-Korean Affairs

  • Through the announcement by the spokesperson of the Naval Command of the KPA and editorial of the Rodong Daily, North Korea has continuously criticized South Korea over the Northern Limit Line maintaining that South Korean warship invaded the North’s territorial waters.
  • At the report 931 on June 22, the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland shifted the blame on the Grand National Party of the South regarding the delay in the Grand National Unification Festival.

Foreign Affairs

  • Chongryun, the pro-Pyongyang General Association of Korean Residents in Japan lost a lawsuit over debt and went through investigation by the Japanese prosecution regarding buying and selling the main office building.
  • Through the letter by Ri Je-son, the director general of the DPRK’s General Bureau of Atomic Energy to the International Atomic Energy Agency, North Korea invited the IAEA’s working-level delegates to discuss process of inspecting the shutdown of the nuclear reactor in Youngbyun.
  • South African delegates, led by the Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhenkesi Arnold Stofile, visited North Korea from June 19 to 21 and concluded the MOU on mutual cooperation in physical sports and recreation.
  • Philippine delegates, led by the Minister of Foreign Affair Alberto Romulo, visited North Korea from June 19 to 21 and discussed intensifying relationships between the two nations.
  • U.S. nuclear envoy Christopher Hill visited North Korea from June 21 to 22 by invitation and discussed the implementation of the initial step of February 12 agreement with North Korean delegates.
