Weekly Sogwang, Powerful Weapon in Korean Revolution

Pyongyang, May 3 (KCNA) -- The Korean people observe the 70th anniversary of the weekly political newspaper Sogwang of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army founded by President Kim Il Sung in May Juche 26 (1937) in the flames of the anti-Japanese armed struggle.
"Sogwang" means heralding the dawn of the Korean revolution.
The President indicated its main task and editing direction and guided its publication.
He also contributed many articles to the newspaper.
The weekly published many works and treatises of the President including "The Tasks of Korean Communists".
It carried in a systematic way theoretical and practical issues arising in the Korean revolution such as the character and task, motive force and target of the Korean revolution, the character and mission of the people's revolutionary government, the character and fighting purpose of the KPRA, the worker-peasant alliance and the united front.
Given in the paper were data for political and military study of soldiers and officers, successes and experiences made in study and training.
The paper ran news from local correspondents and articles with the urgent vital demand and immediate fighting slogans of the Korean people as the contents. And it featured heroic struggle and battle results of the KPRA and literary works including poems and novels.
It was widely distributed among the units of the KPRA and the organizations of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland. It thus made a great contribution to equipping the guerrillas with the revolutionary ideas and invincible military ideas, protean guerrilla tactics and outstanding commanding art of the President and to educating and training them to be competent political and military cadres and backbone of the revolution.
The foundation of the newspaper Sogwang was of important significance in the revolutionary struggle of the Korean people and in the history of building mass media of the Workers' Party of Korea.
