Monument "Protectors of Arts for Century" Erected

   Pyongyang, April 16 (KCNA)-- The monument "Protectors of Arts for the Century" bearing the august names of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il was erected in Pyongyang on the occasion of the Day of the Sun.
    The monument was wonderfully built in Jongbaek area, Rakrang District, Pyongyang, on the initiative of the Russian International Charity Fund "Protectors of Arts for the Century", reflecting the ardent desire of the progressive mankind to highly praise and convey to posterity the undying exploits of the peerlessly great men for the human cause of independence.
    Inscribed on the monument are the letters reading "The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung and the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il of the Korean People, recipients of the highest order and honorary title of the Fund 'Protectors of Arts for the Century'".
    Its unveiling ceremony was held on the spot Sunday.
    Among those present there were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Kang Nung Su, minister of Culture, Mun Jae Chol, acting chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, Kung Sok Ung, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and others and officials concerned and working people in the city.
    Present there were the delegation of the above-said fund headed by its President Oleg Oleinik, the delegation of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, the delegation of the Russia-DPRK Friendship Parliamentary Group of the State Duma of Russia, the delegation of the Maritime Territorial Committee of the Russian Youth League, Russian artistes participating in the 25th April Spring Friendship Art Festival and Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Valery Sukhinin and staff members of his embassy.
    Oleg Oleinik said in a speech at the ceremony that Kim Il Sung devoted his whole life to the freedom of the Korean people and the liberation of the country and to the independent development of humankind and the improvement of friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
    Kim Jong Il has made an immortal contribution to defending the sovereignty of the country and achieving its prosperity and to improving the friendly relations between the two countries under the uplifted banner of the great Juche idea and the Songun banner, he said.
    The august names of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il are engraved on monuments erected in cities of Russia, he said, stressing that their names will be inscribed on monuments in various parts of the world.
    Yang Hyong Sop speaking next said that the unveiling of the monument on the significant occasion of the Day of the Sun is a great auspicious event for the peoples of the two countries and the world progressives, adding that it will be recorded as a significant event in the history of the DPRK-Russia friendship.
    He expressed the belief that the fund would as ever contribute to boosting mutual understanding, confidence and friendship between the two peoples in the field of culture and art.
    Valery Sukhinin in a speech said that the monument erected in honor of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, symbolizes the admiration of the Russian public circles at the feats they have performed for the improvement of the relations between the two peoples. Oleg Oleinik conveyed to Yang Hyong Sop a certificate of personages of the fund who have donated to the erection of the monument.
    A performance was given by Korean and Russian artistes at the end of the ceremony.
