Preserving National Character Essential for Socialist Cultural Construction: Rodong Sinmun

   Pyongyang, March 5 (KCNA) -- Preserving national identity and well keeping alive what is national are highly important in ushering in a period of all-round efflorescence in all aspects of socialist cultural construction, says Rodong Sinmun in a signed article Monday.
    It goes on:
    Keeping alive what is national in cultural construction means properly preserving and constantly carrying forward and developing the excellent cultural tradition peculiar to the nation in conformity with the demand and interests of the revolution and the people of the country. This is the basic guarantee for firmly maintaining the Juche character and national identity in cultural construction and thoroughly embodying what is national in social life.
    Under the wise leadership of the Party and the leader the Korean people are today further developing what is national in socialist cultural construction and national culture and morale of life suitable to their sentiments and feelings are prevailing across the country.
    Revolutionary and popular literature and arts of our era national in style and socialist in content have been newly created and what is national is actively encouraged in the social life of the Korean people ranging from lingual life to etiquette and morality and dietary life under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il who is demonstrating national dignity and honor to the whole world.
    The Korean nation-first spirit fully represents the revolutionary will and stand of the Korean people to constantly carry forward and develop what is national in socialist cultural construction and highly display the dignity and honor of the nation.
    In dressing, singing and dancing today, the Koreans do them to suit the superior custom and way of life of the nation and national sentiments and fragrance and they are giving full play to the noble national traits of helping each other and leading each other along and living in harmony, wherever they may reside. Wholesome moral traits and way of life based on revolutionary comradeship, sense of obligation and revolutionary conscience have become a social fashion. This is the proud reality of our country where socialist national culture is in full bloom.
