Giving Importance to Munitions Industry, Vital Demand
Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)
Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- Primary efforts should be concentrated on the development of munitions industry for steady consolidation of the material foundations of our military capabilities, says the joint New Year editorial. Without the help of strong military power, one can neither safeguard the sovereignty and right to existence of the country and nation and socialism nor build a great, prosperous and powerful nation.
As the aggressive ambition of the U.S.-led imperialists remains unchanged and the enemies persist in the moves against the DPRK, paying importance to the munitions industry in the country arises as a vital demand governing the dignity and destiny of the country and nation.
Since the Korean war the U.S. imperialists have committed grave anti-DPRK provocations such as the spy ship "Pueblo", a large-sized spy plane "EC-121" and "Panmunjom" incidents one after another and frenziedly staged reckless joint war exercises including "Team Spirit", "RSOI" and "Foal Eagle".
At the outset of the year they held a madcap air striking exercise against the DPRK with the mobilization of "B-52" strategic bombers capable of loading eight nuclear bombs.
The U.S. imperialists, twaddling about talks and negotiations, are making naked and intensifying their wild ambition to invade the DPRK.
To cope with this, the Korean people have rendered great efforts to increasing the defence capabilities and secured a powerful war deterrent to defeat any foes under the banner of Songun.
Ours is a mighty munitions industry which manufactures modern offensive and defence means, unique powerful military, combat and technical equipment as we wish so as to realize the modernization of the whole army, arming of the entire people and fortification of the whole country on a high level.
The country will consistently hold fast to the stand of giving importance to the military affairs and the munitions.
