Rodong Sinmun on Guidelines for Korea's Independent Reunification
Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)
Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung advanced the three principles for Korea's reunification--independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity--and this is one of his greatest exploits for national reunification. Rodong Sinmun stresses this in a by-lined article today. The three principles agreed upon and solemnly declared by the north and the south of Korea are a great reunification programme common to the nation as they show the basic stand and way for realizing the reunification of Korea most properly by its nation itself to meet its independent demands and interests, the author of the article says, and goes on:
The principle of independence is the essence of the three principles for Korea's reunification, and it calls for realizing the national reunification in an independent way.
National reunification should be achieved on the basis of the principle of independence without dependence on outsiders or their interference.
Korea's reunification should be realized by the efforts of its nation responsible for it in accordance with its independent will and requirement.
The principle of peaceful reunification is an important component of the three principles as it calls for realizing the national reunification by peaceful means, not through a war.
The reunification by armed forces would bring countless casualties and disasters upon the Korean nation in the north and the south. As a homogeneous nation, the Koreans in the north and the south can surmount any difference in views through dialogue and negotiation, reconciliation and cooperation to achieve the national unity and reunification.
The principle of great national unity calls upon all the Koreans to unite closely and achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country by the strength of their unity.
Korea's reunification is, in essence, a cause of reuniting the divided nation into one. The unity of the whole nation just means national reunification. All the Koreans at home and abroad should be closely united as one under the banner of great unity disregarding differences in ideology and system to build up the driving forces for reunification. This is the main guarantee for achieving the independent national reunification.
The struggle for carrying out the three-point task of attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity set forth in the joint New Year editorial is immediately the just patriotic struggle to realize the three principles of national reunification. All the Koreans from all walks of life at home and abroad should turn out to carry out the three-point task.
