Internal Affairs

• Chairman Kim Jeong-il delivered the on-the-spot guidance at Heechon Machine Tool Factory, Youth Electrical Complex, and Heechon Pottery Factory in Heechon city, Jagang Province on January 19, reported the Central Broadcasting Station on January 20.

• The Central Broadcasting Station reported on January 22 that Chairman Kim Jeong-il gave the on-the-spot guidance at the newly constructed Taechon No. 4 Youth Power Plant, and instructed the workers to devote all their strength to construction of waterpower station so that electric power shortage can be solved.

• Academy of Science for Agriculture set a goal to brighten the outlook of agricultural development in the aspect of science and technology, and is promoting projects to achieve the goal, reported the Central Broadcasting Station on January 23.

• The opening ceremony of the 「 12 th Sports Contest for Paektusan Cup of officials of national institutions 」 was held at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street, Pyongyang on January 23, 2007, reported the Central Broadcasting Station on January 23, 2007.

• The Korean Central News Agency reported on January 22 that as cyber education center was established in the Kim Chaek University of Technology, people from organizations, enterprises, and home could gain access to lectures by prestigious professors of the University.

Inter-Korean Affairs

• According to the reports by the Central Broadcasting Station on January 21 and 22, North Korean high-ranking cadres including Kim Gi-nam and Roh Do-chul have released statements successively to support the 「 Joint Declaration of Party, Government, and Group 」 , urging the South Korean government to take aggressive measures to improve the inter-Korean relations by doing away with obstructing factors for it.

Foreign Affairs

• The spokesperson of the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the U.S. for raising questions about diverting the fund from the UNDP into the North’s nuclear program, saying it is the anti-DPRK agitation, reported the Central Broadcasting Station on January 25, 2007.
