US and North Korean officials on Tuesday held informal talks on Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program in Berlin, DPA quoted the US embassy as saying on Wednesday.
US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Christopher Hill who also heads the American negotiation team in the six-party talks, met with North Korea's Deputy Foreign Minister, Kim Kye-gwan, hoping to overcome the present impasse in the six-nation talks.
China, Japan, Russia and South Korea are the other four nations involved in the negotiations.
The last meeting of the six-party talks took place in Beijing from December 18-22.
It was the first six-nation meeting since Pyongyang sparked worldwide criticism by testing a nuclear bomb on October 9.
In other related news, Hill was to address on Wednesday the Berlin-based American Academy on the future of the six-party talks.
Hill was named top US nuclear negotiator to the six-party negotiations in early 2005.
