ROK Ministry of Unification
Internal Affairs
• Chairman Kim Jeong-il inspected unit 593(Central Broadcasting Station and Pyongyang Broadcasting Services on January 15) and unit 398(Central Broadcasting Station and Pyongyang Broadcasting Services on January 16).
• Through the editorial in the Rodong Daily, North Korea emphasized establishing economic power and improving people’s lives, reported the Rodong Daily on January 15.
• Pyongyang Broadcasting Services reported on January 18 that construction to make a dammed pool is under way in Gaeseong city.
Inter-Korean Affairs
• North Korea announced the ‘Joint Declaration of the Government, Party, and Groups,’ on January 17, in which it asserted that the inter-Korean cooperation projects such as Mt. Geumgang tourism and the Gaeseong Industrial Complex should be promoted and the South Korean government should discontinue participating in the sanction against the North.
• The spokesperson of the Korean National Peace Committee made an announcement to denounce the South Korean government for its plan to establish the Jeju naval base, reported the Central Broadcasting Station and Pyongyang Broadcasting Services on January 16.
• The spokesperson of the North Korean Council for Reunification and Cooperation made an announcement to condemn the South Korean government regarding the detention of a member of the Democratic Labor Party, reported the Central Broadcasting Station and Pyongyang Broadcasting Services on January 16.
Foreign Affairs
• The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had a press conference and made clear that North Korea had an affirmative view on the bilateral talks between the U.S. and North Korea, reported the Korean Central News Agency on January 19.
