Inside North Korea

The North Korean Central News Agency reported (Dec. 4-9), “Kim Jeong-il gave field guidance at Migok Cooperative Farm in Sariwon City in South Hwanghae Province, inspected the Twice Three-Revolution Red Flag Hero Jo Yeong-ho Subunit of KPA Unit 1313, a subunit of KPA Unit 109, a women’s battalion of KPA Unit 3993, a subunit of the Guard Seoul Ryu Gyeong-su 105th Tank Division of the KPA, and a command of KPA Unit 946.”

Quoting a Rodong Shinmun commentary, the North Korean Central News Agency contended (Dec. 7), “The Seon-gun (military-first) ideology that clarified the Juche-oriented (self-reliance) philosophy and principle of army-building provided a firm guarantee for winning victory in intense confrontation with armed hostile forces and independently carving out the destiny of the Korean people.”

Outside North Korea

In a commentary, the North Korean Central News Agency contended (Dec. 6), “Following an agreement to resume the six-party talks, the international community is expecting successful resumption of the talks, with the only exception of Japan. This indicates that Japan will once again play a negative role in the six-party talks to be resumed in the days to come.”|

On the occasion of Human Rights Day (Dec. 10), the Pyongyang Broadcasting Service contended (Dec. 10), “The United States is the gang leader of human rights violations and is not qualified to discuss human rights of any other nation. In order to hold on to the last, the ‘socialism of our style’ focusing on the popular mass and maximally guaranteeing human rights while countering the human rights offensives from the United States, North Korea is bolstering its determination to reinforce its political, ideological and military position in every way possible.”

Inter-Korean Issues

The North Korean Central News Agency reported (Dec. 7), “The International Taekwondo Federation and the World Taekwondo Federation reaffirmed their shared stance that Taekwondo, a traditional martial art, should be unified, and adopted an agreement to inaugurate the ‘Taekwondo Integration Coordination Committee’ in Doha, Qatar on Dec. 2. President Jang Woong of the International Taekwondo Federation (North Korea) and President Jo Jeong-won of the World Taekwondo Federation (South Korea) signed the agreement.”

Quoting an interview with a spokesperson of the Committee for Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, the North Korean Central News Agency blasted (Dec. 8), “The South Korean authorities’ intent to dispatch troops to Iraq constitute cowardly pro-US submissiveness that stands at the forefront of US’ aggressive maneuvers. We brand it as anti-national behavior aiming at retaining political power by selling out the national interests to foreign forces, which we condemn and denounce.”
