Inside North Korea

The North Korean Central News Agency reported (Oct. 9), “The scientific research field of the DPRK successfully conducted an underground nuclear test on Oct. 9, 2006 under secure conditions at a stirring time when all the people of the nation are making a great leap forward in building a great, prosperous and powerful socialist nation.”

The North Korean Central News Agency reported (Oct. 11), “A plenary cabinet meeting was recently held, and was attended by all cabinet members, including Premier Pak Bong-ju. Discussed during the session was how to increase electricity, coal and metal production and to thresh and purchase the grain in line with the mighty harvesting.”

Outside North Korea

Quoting an interview with a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the North Korean Central News Agency contended (Oct. 11), “Although the United States has driven the DPRK to conduct a nuclear test with its nuclear threat and pressure for sanctions, our resolve to achieve a nuclear-free zone through dialogue and negotiation remains unchanged.”

Quoting a Rodong Shinmun commentary, the North Korean Central News Agency blasted (Oct. 14), “The US imperialists’ clinging to military aggression and intervention in dealing with other nations while prattling on about the war on terror is the most vicious and impudent act of infringement on sovereignty and destruction of peace, and a criminal trampling of human rights.”

Inter-Korean Issues

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service propagandized (Oct. 12), “The DPRK shall safeguard the security of the fatherland with strong fortification while holding high the banner of Seon-gun, while the people of South Korea shall clearly perceive the risk and firmly reject the game of the redeployment of US forces, and forcefully stage a struggle against the U.S. and against war with a view to withdrawing the American forces based in Korea.”
