Inside North Korea
The North Korean Central News Agency reported (Sept. 19 & 22), “Last August, the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly adopted the Non-ferrous Metal Act (5 chapters and 46 articles) and the Cooperative Production Act on Foundry (27 articles).”
Quoting a Rodong Shinmun editorial titled “Let us become closely united in agriculture this year,” the North Korean Central News Agency contended (Sept. 24), “Only when we harvest the crops that we have farmed with care on time and without waste can we fill the rice jars of our nation and move up the date of building a powerful, prosperous and great nation.” It went on to say, “We must stand in unity in farming, efficiently resolve the food issue, and exalt the superiority of the socialist system.”
Outside North Korea
The North Korean Central News Agency reported (Sept. 19), “The government of the People’s Republic of China has provided the DPRK, free of charge, with relief goods including food and diesel fuel in the wake of the flood damage.”
The North Korean Central News Agency stated (Sept. 23), “In its cabinet meeting on Sept. 19, the Japanese government approved the financial sanctions on the DPRK.” It blasted, “Japan’s imposition of sanctions can only be regarded as a shameful political act designed to please its master, the U.S., by being servile to its hostile policy toward the DPRK.”
Inter-Korean Issues
The Central Broadcasting Station alleged (Sept. 22), “Despite opposition from various sectors of society, the South Korean authorities are in an indiscreet frenzy to conclude the Free Trade Agreement with the United States.”
Quoting a Rodong Shinmun commentary, the North Korean Central News Agency contended (Sept. 24), “At a time such as now, when a foundation for reconciliation and cooperation is built and the focus is on unity and reunification based on the June 15 Joint Declaration, the alliance forging with foreign forces is anachronistic and will do more harm than good.”
