Inside North Korea
The Chosun Central News Agency reported (June 27), “Kim Jeong-il inspected a subunit of KPA Unit 202, observed the training of the soldiers, and said that the worthy and proud life of a soldier is glorified through training.”
The Chosun Central News Agency reported (June 26), “On the occasion of June 25, the day of struggle against US imperialism, a rally took place in Pyongyang condemning the US imperialistic aggressors.” It contended, “Peace on the Korean peninsula cannot be guaranteed without a struggle against the aggression and war maneuvers of the US, and without this struggle, peaceful reunification of the nation is unimaginable.”
Outside North Korea
Quoting a commentary from Rodong Shinmun, the Chosun Central News Agency blasted Japan, saying (June 26), “The fact that Japan has recently come up with the ‘North Korean Human Rights Act’ while raising the kidnapping issue, etc. is a blatant political provocation of us [the DPRK], as well as the culmination of its hostile policy against the DPRK.”
The Chosun Central News Agency reported (July 1), “Kim Jeong-il conveyed greetings to Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, in which he said that it is invariably the intention of the Workers’ Party of Korea to steadily develop the DPRK-China friendship.”
Inter-Korean Issues
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (July 1), “The inter-Korean sports talks were held in Gaeseong on June 29 to discuss the matter of forming a unified team to participate in the 29th Olympiad to be held in Beijing in 2008. At the meeting, the two sides issued a joint press release.”
