ROK National Intelligence Service

Inside North Korea

The Chosun Central News Agency reported, “Kim Jeong-il attended a performance given by an art squad of KPA Unit 287. He also inspected KPA Navy Unit 401 and a sub-unit of KPA Unit 715 (dates unreported).”

The Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Service reported, “A national meeting commemorating the 60th anniversary of the promulgation of the Labor Law took place at the Central Workers’ Hall on June 23, and was attended by Kim Yeong-nam, Pak Bong-ju, Choi Tae-bok and Yang Hyeong-seop, among others.”

Outside North Korea

Quoting an interview with a spokesperson of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, the Chosun Central News Agency emphasized, “RIMPAC-2006, the US-led joint military exercises, demonstrates that the peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue as declared by the United States is merely a deception aimed at provoking a new war. We [the DPRK] will take stern action against the provocative maneuvers of the aggressors through self-defensive measures.”

Inter-Korean Issues

The Rodong Shinmun emphasized, “The entire people of North and South Korea as well as overseas Koreans should further brighten the ‘June 15 reunification era’ by forcefully launching the three-point patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace and grand national unity by holding high the banner of ‘by our nation itself.’”
