The Chosun Central News Agency reported (April 8), “A national meeting marking the 13th anniversary of Kim Jeong-il’s election as DPRK National Defense Commission Chairman (April 9, 1993) was held on April 8 at the April 25 House of Culture.” It stated, “A preemptive attack is not exclusively for the US to launch. We [the DPRK] will never sit idle waiting to be subject to a preemptive attack.”

Outside North Korea

The Chosun Central News Agency reported (April 4-6), “Cao Gangchuan, minister of National Defense of the People’s Republic of China, visited Pyongyang on April 4, met with Jo Myeong-rok, director of the General Political Department of the KPA, visited Geumsusan Memorial Palace and Kim Il Sung Military University. Minister Cao left Pyongyang on April 6 after meeting with Kim Yeong-nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly.”

Quoting an interview with a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chosun Central News Agency blasted (April 6), “The fact that Japan instructed Dokdo Island to be described as the Japanese territory in the textbook to be used from 2007 started out from the ambition of territorial expansion, and is evoking the rage of the Korean people.”

Inter-Korean Issues

Quoting a commentary published by the Rodong Shinmun, the Chosun Central News Agency propagandized (April 3), “In order to crush the maneuvers for a war of aggression launched by the US imperialists and to promote the advancement of the self-reliant reunification era, the entire people of Korea must hold high the banner of peace and launch a struggle.”

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service declared (April 9), “Grand national solidarity is the banner for unfailing victory in the reunification of the fatherland. It is the ideology for solidifying all ranks and classes in the north, south and overseas for the reunification of the fatherland.”
