ROK National Intelligence Service

Inside North Korea

The Central Broadcasting Station propagandized (Jan. 28), “In celebration of the lunar New Year, traditional sports and games, musical performances and competitions for farmers’ musical instruments are being staged across the nation.”

The Chosun Central News Agency reported (Jan. 27-28), “Kim Jeong-il inspected KPA Unit 932 (date unreported).” It went on to say, “Kim Jeong-il, along with senior officials of the Party, the State and the military, as well as Wu Donghe, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, attended a congratulatory performance of Blue Sky over My Country at Pyongyang Stadium on Jan. 28 as well as a banquet hosted by the National Defense Commission that evening.”

Outside North Korea

In a commentary titled “Settlement of the past cannot be evaded by any means,” the Pyongyang Broadcasting Service blasted (Jan. 27), “It is outrageous sophism on the part of Japanese authorities to blabber hat the issue of settlement of the past has been completely resolved.”

The Chosun Central News Agency contended (Jan. 28), “In our country (the DPRK), the ill treatment of the people, the counterfeiting of notes and drug trafficking cannot possibly take place.” It further insisted, “The United States must become acutely aware that the withdrawal of hostile policies against North Korea is a prerequisite for resolving the nuclear issue between DPRK and the United States.”

Inter-Korean Issues

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service contended, “Youths and students must become united in mind and in strength to launch the struggle to implement the June 15 joint declaration. Youths must unite and fulfill their honorable duty as forebearers of the reunification of the fatherland.”
