Important Work for Development of Revolutionary Literature and Art

Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung published the immortal classic work "On Creating Revolutionary Literature and Art" on Nov. 7, Juche 53 (1964). It is a historic work which marked an epochal turn in the development of literature and art in the DPRK. In his work he clarifies the thematic direction in creating revolutionary literary and art works.
It has thus developed the literature and art in the DPRK to be revolutionary and militant ones reflecting the spirit of the times and the aspiration and requirement of the popular masses.
Kim Jong Il, who is true to the ideas and intention of the President, has wisely led the activities of creating more literary and art works based on varied themes for the purpose of energetically inspiring the popular masses to the revolution and construction.
Under his meticulous guidance, the feature film "The Path to Awakening" was produced as the first masterpiece. The film truthfully depicts the anti-U.S. struggle of the south Korean student youth and people.
Feature films of high ideological and artistic value saw the light in the filmdom during the period from 1964 to 1967. Among them are "The Story of a Detachment Commander" showing young men and women who grow up as revolutionaries in the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and "The Family of Choe Hak Sin" which is conducive to implanting the anti-U.S. spirit in the minds of the working people and school children and youth.
In recent years lots of revolutionary literary and art works have been created. In particular, the multi-part film "The Nation and Destiny" and the mass gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang" are lauded as extravaganza.
