Rodong Sinmun on Dignity and Interests of Nation
Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)
Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- The Korean nation should deal with the national issue, the issue of reunification on the principles of giving priority to national sovereignty and dignity and the will and interests of the nation if it is to carve out its destiny successfully, beating back the aggressive challenges of outsiders. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article.
The Korean nation should accomplish its historic cause of reunification of the country at an early date, and the absolute norm of its reunification movement is naturally the sovereignty and dignity of the nation, the article points out, and goes on:
Now south Korea witnesses a tragic reality bereft of sovereignty and dignity.
The pro-U.S. conservative forces of south Korea have persistently blocked the trend of the times toward national independence, turning away from the unfortunate reality of south Korea which is under the occupation and domination of the outside forces.
In order to lead an independent life and achieve its development, any nation should reject foreign interference and pressure and solve all the problems in conformity with its will and interests according to its own decision and judgment.
A small country, a divided country, should take a serious view of its national interests. But, unfortunately, priority is given not to the interests of the nation but to the interests of outside forces in south Korea.
The Korean nation demands the south Korean authorities put national interests ahead of the interests of the outsiders and thoroughly implement the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration under the present grave situation. But the south Korean authorities are actually following the U.S. will and demand for sanctions and pressure upon the DPRK, while paying lip-service to peace. This is, in fact, a treacherous act of leading inter-Korean relations to showdown and war.
The Korean nation, strong in the spirit of independence and the sense of justice, can never allow its dignity and interests to be infringed upon and the settlement of the national issue to be delayed. To defend the national dignity and interests precisely means a way to peace and reunification.
