Events of Youths and Students Held to Mark Anniversary of DIU

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- A torchlight procession, an oath-taking rally and an evening gala of youths and students took place here last evening in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the formation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU). The plaza of the Tower of the Juche Idea from where the torchlight procession was expected to start was crowded with the youths and students in the city who gathered with the great joy and pride of significantly celebrating the day to be specially recorded in the 80 year-long history of the Juche revolution.
Amid the playing of welcome music open cars carrying flags bearing the portraits of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il entered the plaza.
A rally was held at the plaza to kick off the torchlight procession.
Present there were senior officials of the Party, the army and the state, officials of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League and youths and students.
In the van of the procession were open cars carrying the flags bearing the portraits of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and an open car on which a young man and woman were holding a torch of the revolution.
The participants in the mammoth procession in the plaza and the avenues adjacent to it began to move amid the solemn playing of "Song of General Kim Il Sung".
The route was crowded with Pyongyangites from all walks of life who turned out to join the youngsters in celebrating the day.
Ranks of students of revolutionary schools, university students and young workers marched in fine array to the tune of "Song of General Kim Jong Il" and "Long Live the Workers' Party of Korea," etc.
The ranks of participants entered the plaza of the Monument to Party Founding via Tongmun Intersection.
They formed with torchlights huge letters "Kim Il Sung", "Kim Jong Il", "DIU", g80h and "Heir" and a big star representing the intense loyalty of hot-blooded young revolutionaries belonging to the first generation of the Korean revolution and their transparent spirit of devotedly defending the leader.
A rally of youths and students was held at the plaza to vow to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche under the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il, rallied close around the headquarters of the revolution, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the DIU.
All the participants, led by the first secretary of the Central Committee of the youth league, took a solemn oath to consolidate the youth league to be Songun young vanguard, an heir to the tradition of the DIU, and thus fulfill their honorable mission and duty as the most viable reserve combat unit and detached force of Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il in the sacred struggle for independence against imperialism and the final victory of the socialist cause. Then followed an evening gala of youths and students for celebrating the anniversary of the DIU.
