Ground-Breaking Ceremony of Monument to "Protectors of Arts for Century" Held

Pyongyang, October 6 (KCNA) -- A monument to "Protectors of Arts for the Century" will be erected in Pyongyang to highly praise the undying feats performed by President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il. The monument is to be erected in the area of Jongbaek, Raknang District on the initiative of the Russian International Charity Fund "Protectors of Arts for the Century."
To be engraved on the monument are the august names of the peerlessly great men reflecting the unanimous desire of the world progressive people to hand down for all ages the undying feats Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il performed by making great contributions to the times, history and the accomplishment of the human cause of independence.
A ground-breaking ceremony of the monument was held on the spot on Thursday.
Present there were Oleg Oleinik, president of the Russian International Charity Fund "Protectors of Arts for the Century" who is heading the delegation of the fund, and Aleksei Lebedi, head of the government of the Khakasiya Republic of the Russian Federation, and other members of the delegation and Ambassador Andrei Karlov and officials of the Russian embassy here.
Also present were Kang Nung Su, minister of Culture, Mun Jae Chol, acting chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, Kung Sok Ung, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Ju Su Yong, director of the Mansudae Art Studio, Hong Son Ok, vice-chairperson of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who is chairperson of the DPRK-Russia Friendship Association, Choe Hong Il, vice-chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, and officials concerned and working people in Pyongyang.
Oleg Oleinik in a speech said that the monument to "Protectors of Arts for the Century" will be a symbol of the unity of all the fair-minded people in the world as it will tower as a splendid edifice to be built thanks to their common wisdom and efforts.
Kang Nung Su in his speech recalled that the Russian International Charity Fund "Protectors of Arts for the Century" awarded to Kim Il Sung the order of "Gold Star of Protectors of Arts" and to Kim Jong Il the order of "Star of Protectors of Arts," the honorary title of international community award "Protector and Philanthropist of the World Arts for 2005" and title of honorary academician of the "International Art Protection Academy."
It marks one more new occasion in the development of the friendly relations between the peoples of the DPRK and Russia that the fund provided a ground-breaking ceremony of the monument, prompted by the profound reverence for the peerlessly great men, he noted.
Andrei Karlov in his speech said that the monument is a symbol of the feats Kim Il Sung, founder of the DPRK, and Kim Jong Il performed for the development of the friendly relations between the two countries.
When Oleg Oleinik and Kang Nung Su unveiled the signpost of the monument, balloons flew high amidst the warm applause of the crowd.
Then the participants went round the signpost before being briefed on the miniature of the monument.
That day the delegation of the fund arranged a reception at Pyongyang Koryo Hotel in connection with the ground-breaking ceremony of the monument.
