Inter-Korean Joint Event Held

Kwangju, June 15 (KCNA Correspondent) -- A joint event of authorities of the north and the south sides was held in Kwangju, south Korea on Thursday to mark the sixth anniversary of the historic June 15 joint declaration. Present at the event were a delegation of authorities of the north side headed by Kim Yong Dae, vice-chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, and a delegation of authorities of the south side headed by Ri Jong Sok, minister of Unification, and advisers of both sides.
Speeches were made there.
Ri Jong Sok in his speech said that although there were difficulties and complications in the process of advancing the south-north relations in the spirit of the June 15 joint declaration for the past six years, the joint declaration has served as a beacon indicating the way the Korean nation should go.
Stressing that the Korean nation should have willingness to shape its future by its own efforts according to its will, he said that the authorities of the south and the north should positively work to heal pains and wounds caused by national division.
Kim Yong Dae said in his speech that delegations of both sides' authorities are participating in the grand national festival for reunification which is full of nation.$B!G.(Bs ardent desire for independent reunification this year, too, following the June 15 and August 15 festivals last year. This demonstrates at home and abroad the will of both sides' authorities to invariably defend and implement the joint declaration and shows a firm promise before the whole nation to take the lead in the patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity and play its role as the main part in implementing the joint declaration, he noted.
Both authorities should not be an onlooker, an observer but be a centripetal body and the leading part in achieving great national unity, he said, stressing that both authorities should fully support the patriotic struggle of civic reunification movement organizations and sincerely help their activities.
Then speeches were made by advisers of both delegations.
Jong Se Hyon, adviser of the south side, said the south and the north authorities should fulfill their role and mission, stressing the need to further strengthen and boost south-north reconciliation and cooperation in the spirit of the June 15 joint declaration.
Ju Jin Gu, adviser of the north side, said that the June 15 era will dynamically advance and north-south relations will develop when the authorities of the north and the south rely on their own nation with the stand of attaching importance and priority to the nation and solve all the problems by the Korean nation itself.
