Constant Attention Paid to Bird Flu Prevention Work in DPRK

   Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- A constant attention is being paid to the avian flu prevention work in accordance with the epizootic prevention system already established in the DPRK. The National Emergency Epizootic Prevention Committee with vice-premier Ro Tu Chol as its chairman has taken measures of observe, notify and prevent the bird flu in touch with the FAO and other international organizations.
    Propaganda activities are being conducted among the people under the unified guidance of the emergency committee so that they turn out in the campaign for preventing bird influenza.
    Officials of public health establishment at all levels and the stock-breeding and poultry fields bring home to inhabitants the common knowledge, prevention measures and emergency action principle in case of bird flu outbreak.
    More than 1,360 observation posts observe all the times the movement of migrants and wild birds and their habitats and the infection by bird flu across the country.
    The open-air breeding of fowls is banned to prevent the poultry from coming into contact with migrants and a thorough test of the dead migrants and wild birds are conducted.
    The poultry farms pay primary attention to regular sterilization, off-limits to outsiders and traffic suspension in close contact with the provincial emergency epizootic prevention committees.
    The sale of the live-stock products in markets is permitted only under a thorough veterinary inspection.
    The Central Epizootic Prevention Center under the Ministry of Agriculture is intensifying the research into developing the diagnostic kit of bird flu and raising the efficacy of the prevention, sterilization and curative medicines.
