Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Air Force Unit

   Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, inspected KPA Air Force Unit 797 honored with the title of O Jung Hup-led seventh regiment. He looked round the monument to the on-the-spot guidance of President Kim Il Sung and the historic planes.
    Kim Il Sung visited this unit on Mar. 21, 1976 and gave precious instructions on bolstering the air force.
    After seeing the historic relics and mementoes associated with the President's giant footprints, Kim Jong Il said that the unit could traverse the road of victory and glory under the President's wise guidance and meticulous care. The immortal revolutionary exploits performed by the President in the building of the nation's air force will shine forever, he added.
    He learned about the unit's performance of duty before watching airmen's training. He set forth tasks to be tackled to further increase the unit's combat capability, expressing great satisfaction over the fact that the unit has fully prepared all the airmen as brave fighters through vigorous endeavors to thoroughly implement the WPK's policy of training.
    This unit with a long history is a unit of merit as it has produced many heroes, he said, calling on all the airmen to carry forward this proud militant tradition and become heroes in the sacred battles to defend the country.
    He took deep care of the service and living of the airmen, making the rounds of a servicepersons' hall, a bedroom, a mess hall, a kitchen, a wash-cum-bath house, a daily provision store and other places of the unit.
    Noting that all the airmen are strong in the faith and ideology as they are filled with the patriotic determination to readily dedicate their youth and lives to the defence of the country, he stressed that the country is like an impregnable fortress as its sky is firmly guarded by this contingent of loyalists.
    He spared time to watch an art performance given by airmen and had a photo session with the servicepersons of the unit.
    He was accompanied by Hwang Pyong So, vice department director of the WPK Central Committee.
