Labor Upsurge Being Effected in Spirit of Wartime Munitions Production

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- The people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are effecting innovations in all the sectors of the socialist economic construction in the Kunjari spirit. The spirit was created by the workers of a munitions factory in Kunjari who produced weapons and ammunitions in time and thus made a great contribution to the victory in the past Fatherland Liberation War. It is run through with the unswerving spirit of guarding the leader with their very lives and the spirit of self-reliance, hard-working, self-sacrifice and revolutionary optimism.
President Kim Il Sung called upon the people to direct every effort to the victory in the war. In response to this call, the workers there manufactured munitions by turning machines manually in water-dripping dead pits.
During the strategic temporary retreat, the President assigned to the workers there an urgent task of assembling submachine guns for an army unit. Eating parched maize as meals, the 20-member death-defying squad of the factory worked hard day and night and tested the efficiency of weapons by lighting the target with torch, thus assembling 750 submachine guns within six days.
The workers lived an optimistic life, singing revolutionary songs.
The common knowledge that the stock of rifle should be made only with white birch tree was also broken by them.
The first Labor Hero in the field of munitions industry was produced out of the workers and the first study-while-working college was founded at the factory during the war.
The Kunjari spirit is being given fuller play in the Songun era, inspiring the people to labor feats.
