Commemorative Stamp Published in DPRK

   Pyongyang, May 11 (KCNA) -- A new stamp has been issued in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Pothong River improvement project, the first large-scale nature-remaking project in the DPRK. Before liberation, the river flowing through Pyongyang was flooded in the rainy season every year, inundating many farm houses and arable land in the areas along the river and bringing immeasurable disaster on the people there.
    President Kim Il Sung initiated the project and turned the first sod for the project with spade on May 21, Juche 35 (1946).
    That day he said that the project should be made as the first torch of nature-remaking project for building a rich and powerful, democratic sovereign and independent country. Boundlessly encouraged by his speech, Pyongyang citizens completed the project in a matter of 55 days by displaying patriotic devotion.
    Printed on the stamp are the words "In Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Pothong River Improvement Project".
    The monument to the project is reflected on the stamp with the beautiful scenery of Pyongyang on the banks of the river as its background.
    The stamp shows the changed Pothong River and its basin such as magnificent Chollima and other streets, the People's Palace of Culture, the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, the Changgwang Health Complex and other sports and service facilities.
    The face value of the stamp is 12 won.
