First Architectural Aesthetic Symposium Held

   Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The first architectural aesthetic symposium was held at the People's Palace of Culture Tuesday. The symposium clearly explained and proved the originality and vitality of leader Kim Jong Il's Juche-based idea of architecture, principled matters for developing the nation's architecture as required by the new century and ways to do so. .
    Kim Jong Il authored famous work "Theory of Architectural Art" on May 21, Juche 80 (1991) in which he clarified the issue of fully applying the revolutionary view on the leader to architecture, the issue of creating Korean-style architecture, the issue of embodying the party spirit, the working class spirit and the popular spirit in architectural creation and properly combining the national peculiarity and modernity in it, and the issue of raising the quality of architecture and economic effectiveness as fundamental principles to govern the Juche-based architectural creation. .
    Pae Tal Jun, minister of State Construction Control, Tong Jong Ho, minister of Construction and Building Materials Industries, and many other speakers said that these principles indicate the most correct way for our architecture to actively contribute to the independent and creative life of the popular masses as they are most scientific and just principles meeting the requirements of the socialist society. They referred to the issues of strictly abiding by them. .
    They stressed the need to establish the revolutionary view on the leader in the city construction and apply the popular spirit in it so as to systematically give face-lift to urban and rural villages as required by the times and as desired by the popular masses. They also underlined the need to fully meet the requirements of the formative artistic representation in the city lay-out and actively bring the flexible formation of main structures in step with it so that cities may win the admiration of the posterity. .
    They called for bringing about a great innovation in the overall field of building materials industry by stepping up the reconstruction and modernization of factories and enterprises in this field and keeping the production of modern ordinary building materials and finishing materials going at a high rate as required by the new century, etc. .
    They evinced their pledge to properly work out a master-plan of for the construction of the capital city of Pyongyang and push ahead with this construction under a long-term plan on its basis. They also said that they would rebuild all cities and rural villages on a modern basis and continue to push ahead with the work to create forests, improve rivers and streams and build roads, while dynamically stepping up the work to convert the capital city into greenery and woodland. .
    Present at the symposium were Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Jon Sung Hun, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Cabinet members, and officials concerned, and designers, technicians, teachers and researchers in the fields of architecture, construction, building materials, city management, and land and environmental protection.
