Several events were held to mark the 94 th anniversary of late North Korean leader Kim Il Sung’s birthday, including a central reporting meeting, the exhibition of Kimilsungia, April Spring Friendship Arts Festival in North Korea , and discussion meetings and exhibitions overseas.

The Central and Pyongyang Broadcasting Station reported on April 16 that Chairman Kim Jong Il inspected a company under army unit 760, accompanied by Generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae, Pak Jae Kyong and Deputy Director of the Central Committee of the Party Hwang Pyong So.

The Central and Pyongyang Broadcasting Station reported on April 20 that North Korea had held a central meeting to mark the 60 th anniversary of the foundation of ‘Youth Vanguard’. The Youth Vanguard, often called as the ‘Youth Bulletin’, is the daily newspaper issued by Keumsung (Goldstar) Publishing Company which belongs directly to the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Party.

Inter-Korean Affairs

The Central Broadcasting Station reported on April 19 that North Korea had analyzed and evaluated the White Paper on the Chosun Lawyers Association. North Korea criticized Japan ’s behavior concerning the issue of Dokdo Islets and emphasized “Minjokgongjo” (national solidarity) for the issue by commenting on the White Paper.

Foreign Affairs

The spokesperson of the People’s Security Ministry released a statement criticizing the United States and Japan for plotting against North Korea , according to the Central Broadcasting Station on April 20.

All North Korean civic organizations denounced Japan ’s claims for its sovereignty over Dokdo Island .
