Chairman Kim Jong-il inspected air force unit 236 and army unit 3406, accompanied by Generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong, and Deputy Director of the Central Committee of the Party Hwang Pyong So.
In a Rodong Sinmun editorial entitle “Make a Leap onto a Higher Stage, Armed with the Revolutionary Spirit of Self-reliance,” North Korea emphasized the building a Gangseong Daeguk (a great, prosperous and powerful nation), according to the Central Broadcasting Station on March 27.
The North has made a concentrated effort to prevent avian influenza (AI) during a Veterinary Quarantine Monthly Campaign.
The 13 th reunion of members of families dispersed in South and North Korea was held at Geumgangsan (the Diamond Mountains) from March 20-25, 2006. In the first round of the reunion, 148 South Koreans were reunited with 239 North Koreans from March 20-22, while in the second round, 100 North Koreans met 420 South Korean relatives from March 23-25.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Japanese police for cracking down on Cho chongnyeon (the Pro-Pyongyang General Association of Korean Residents in Japan ). In a statement by the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, the North claimed that its sovereignty had been infringed on by Japan when it suppressed Chochongnyeon by searching the buildings owned by the organization and withdrawing tax cuts.
