Kim Jong Il Gives Field Guidance to New E-Library and Gymnasium at Kim Chaek University of Technology

    Pyongyang, January 4 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, gave field guidance to the new e-library and gymnasium at Kim Chaek University of Technology. Going round the art work depicting President Kim Il Sung among teachers and students of the university, he said the university turned into the highest seat for training scientists and technicians of the country under his wise leadership and meticulous care.
    The immortal revolutionary exploits performed by the President will always remain shining along with the university, he added. He first went round the e-library.
    The library with a total floor space of more than 16,000 square meters is a modern library where all the services ranging from the retrieval of lists of books to reading books and other materials and lectures are computerized.
    After being briefed on the library before a huge painting showing its panoramic view, he made the rounds of the exterior and interior of the library including book lending and reading rooms, remote controlled-lecture hall and control panel.
    Learning in detail about its construction, equipment and operation, he expressed great satisfaction over the successful construction of the modern library which reflects the appearance of the ideal society desired by the Korean people.
    The library built to the convenience of the teachers and students in their study and researches is a precious asset of the country to be handed down to posterity, he noted, setting forth tasks to be tackled to manage and operate the library. He indicated a specific orientation and ways for developing the library into the world's leading library under a long-term plan.
    He then looked round the exhibition of scientific and technological achievements in the library. He extended thanks to the teachers and students of the university, expressing great satisfaction over the fact that they have made successes in their researches greatly conducive to the development of the nation's economy and science and technology with ardent patriotism.
    Going round the gymnasium, he expressed great satisfaction over the successful construction of the huge multi-purpose gymnasium where various sports events and training, art performances and conferences can take place and set forth tasks to be fulfilled to manage and operate it. Noting that the new e-library and gymnasium at Kim Chaek University of Technology has been designed and constructed at the highest level, he appreciated the feats the builders and their helpers have performed by constructing with patriotic devotion modern structures which will win even the admiration of posterity. He extended thanks to them.
    He expressed expectation and conviction that the university would train more able technicians needed for the building of a great prosperous powerful nation and more strikingly demonstrate its might in the future, too.
    He was accompanied by Pak Pong Ju, premier of the Cabinet of the DPRK, Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the C.C., the WPK, and Pak Nam Gi and Ri Kwang Ho, department directors of the C.C., the WPK, and Ri Jae Il, first vice department director of the C.C., the WPK.
