Pyongyangites Vow to Make New Leap Forward

    Pyongyang, January 4 (KCNA) -- A mass rally of Pyongyangites was held at the Kim Il Sung Square Wednesday to vow to make a new leap forward in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation with the might of Songun. At least 100,000 Pyongyangites gathered on the square in warm response to the joint New Year editorial.
    Seen on the tribune of honor were Pak Pong Ju, Choe Thae Bok, Yang Hyong Sop, Kim Jung Rin and other senior officials. Ryang Man Gil, chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, in a report referred to the successes achieved in the capital city last year, adding that these are the brilliant fruition of the outstanding Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    He called upon the officials and other working people in the city to become steadfast revolutionaries who, united as firm as a rock around Kim Jong Il, follow him on the basis of ideology and faith and defend him at the cost of their lives.
    He underscored the need for everybody to have confidence in certain victory of socialism, thoroughly establish the trait of giving priority to the military affairs and developing the national defence industry on a preferential basis and fully display the trait of assisting the army. Underlining the need to put forward agriculture as the main front of the economic construction and provide preferentially the labor force, materials and equipment needed for agriculture, bearing in mind the Party's intention to mobilize and concentrate all forces on farming once again, he called on the agricultural front to do farm work tenaciously in a revolutionary manner as the People's Army does.
    Production should be increased in the field of electricity and coal industries and light industry and greater efforts be channeled into the construction of the capital and city management to turn the city into a modern and highly civilized one and improve the economic management in a revolutionary manner, he noted.
    The reporter stressed the need to effect a signal turn in education, successfully solve scientific and technological issues arising in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation, preserve the Juche character and national identity in social life and bring the revolutionary soldier culture into full bloom at all units.
    The report was followed by speeches. A resolution was adopted at the rally.
