Inside North Korea

The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Dec. 14, Dec. 16-17), “Kim Jeong-il gave field guidance at the newly built Dock No. 2 at the Yeongnam Ship Repair Factory and at the Ryongseong Foodstuff Factory (dates unreported), and enjoyed the artistic performance Blue Sky Over My Country along with servicemen and women stationed in Pyongyang (date unreported).”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Dec. 14), “A national meeting of active People’s security persons was held at the People’s Palace of Culture on Dec. 12 and 13, and was attended by Minister of People’s Security Joo Sang-seong.”


The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service reported (Dec. 15), “The Osandeok Cup sports tournament opened at the Ice Rink on Dec. 15 to mark the birthday of the late Kim Jeong-sook, Kim Jeong-il’s mother, and was attended by Moon Jae-deok, chairman of the Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission.”

Outside North Korea

The Rodong Shinmun blasted (Dec. 12), “Japan’s maneuvers for military expansion and expansion overseas are a dangerous signal that warns of the emergence of a new belligerent nation and a prelude to overseas aggression by the Japanese militarists.”


In its editorial, the Rodong Shinmun contended (Dec. 13), “American democracy is synonymous with invasion, exploitation and intervention, and American-style democracy must be rejected.”


In a commentary, the Joseon Central News Agency contended (Dec. 15), “We (the DPRK) have never counterfeited notes, nor have we been involved in illegal activities, and these are unimaginable in light of our (the DPRK’s) nature and mission.”

Inter-Korean Issues

The Joseon Central News Agency reported (Dec. 16), “The 17th Inter-Korean Ministerial talks (Dec. 13-16) ended, a joint statement was released, and our (the DPRK’s) delegation returned to Pyongyang from Jeju Island on Dec. 16.”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Dec. 18), “The 3rd conference of youth and student organizations from the North and the South to implement the June 15 Joint Declaration was held in Gaeseong from Dec. 16 to 17.”
