Inside North Korea
The Central Broadcasting Station reported, “Kim Jeong-il, accompanied by Hwang Byeong-seo, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, and others, inspected a women’s company honored with the title of the three revolution red flag under KPA Unit 4302, a company under KPA Unit 287, and a company honored with the title of the three revolution red flag under KPA Unit 2023 (dates unreported).”
The Joseon Central News Agency reported (Nov. 17), “A national meeting commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Korean Democratic Women’s Unions was held on Nov. 17 at the People’s Palace of Culture, with the participation of Kim Joong-rin, secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea.”
In an editorial commemorating the 30th anniversary of the three-revolution red flag movement, Rodong Shinmun emphasized (Nov. 18), “The resolute goal of the popular movement must be actively promoting the three revolutions in all units, and a decisive transition must be made in the building of a powerful nation through the mighty force of this movement.”
Outside North Korea
In a statement issued on Nov. 16, the Countermeasures Committee on Compensation for Military Comfort Women and Victims of Forceful Detention contended, “The century-old crimes of Japan against Korea will be settled without fail.” (Joseon Central News Agency)
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Nov. 17), “An agreement on the 2005-2007 Plan for Cultural and Scientific Exchanges between North Korea and Russia was signed on Nov. 16 at Mansudae Assembly Hall by Jeon Hyeon-chan, vice chairman of the North Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, and Andrei Karlov, Russian Ambassador to the DPRK.”
In an editorial titled “Indiscrete policies on sanctions and blockades,” the Pyongyang Broadcasting Service contended, “In the event the US imperialists attempt to obliterate our (DPRK’s) socialist system, they will face retaliatory blows hundreds of thousands times fiercer, and they must abandon the sanctions and related policies against North Korea that incite war.”
Inter-Korean Issues
With regard to the inauguration of the New Right National Association, the Joseon Central News Agency blasted, “The association is a mutation of ultra-right conservatism imitating the Neocon, the new conservative powers gaining notoriety in the United States, and the ?Siocon’ representing radical religious conservatives.”
The Central Broadcasting Station alleged (Nov. 18), “The disgraceful behavior by the ultra-radical conservative powers, including the Grand National Party (Hannara Party) that is running amok with charges that the academic assertions of Professor Kang Jeong-gu give praise and encouragement to North Korea and have instigated a civil war, are rash actions that go against the trend of the times and against unification.”
In an interview with its spokesperson (Nov. 20), the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland condemned, “The arrest of Im Dong-won and Shin Gunn, former directors of the National Intelligence Service during the regime of Kim Dae-jung, is a political coup by the Grand National Party designed to bury the leading powers of the June 15 declaration” (Central Broadcasting Station).
