Inside North Korea
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Oct. 24), “Kim Jeong-il, accompanied by Kim Yeong-nam, chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, Cho Myeong-rok, director of the General Political Department of KPA, and Pak Bong-ju, cabinet premier, and others, visited the bier of Yeon Hyeong-mook, vice chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK (who passed away on Oct. 22) to pay their respects.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Oct. 26), “The Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth Alliance held the 31st Plenary Assembly in Pyongyang on Oct. 25, and presented the youths with the tasks and measures in order to prepare them to become the ‘organization of Songun (the military-first revolution).’”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Oct. 26), “The National Forerunners Congress of Storming Party for Scientists and Engineers took place at the People’s Palace of Culture on Oct. 26, which was attended by Pak Bong-ju, cabinet premier, Choe Tae-bok, secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea Central Committee, and others.
Outside North Korea
In an interview with the Chosun Central News Agency on Oct. 24, a spokesperson for the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned, “North Korea will participate in the fifth round of the six-party talks on a date that will be agreed upon in early November.”
In an Oct. 24 Rodong Shinmun editorial, North Korea stated, “UN reforms must take place in the direction of thorough achievement of pluralism.” It went on to say, “Japan, which is distorting its history of aggression, must never be allowed to gain a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.”
Hu Jintao, president of the People’s Republic of China, visited North Korea from Oct. 28 to Oct. 30 (Central Broadcasting Station).

· The special plane carrying Hu Jintao, the president of the People’s Republic of China, arrived at Pyongyang’s Sunan Airport on Oct. 28 around 11:50, where Kim Jeong-il himself greeted him.
· On Oct. 28, President Hu Jintao visited Geumsusan Memorial Palace and the Korea-China Friendship Tower, participated in a summit meeting with Kim Jeong-il, and attended a welcome dinner hosted by Kim Jeong-il.
· On Oct. 29, President Hu Jintao visited Taean Friendship Glass Factory and Ryongsan Experimental Farm in Pyongyang, met with Kim Yeong-nam and Pak Bong-ju, and attended an Arirang performance.
· After wrapping up his three-day visit in North Korea, President Hu Jintao left from Sunan Airport in Pyongyang on Oct. 30. Kim Jeong-il was on hand to see him off.
Inter-Korean Issues
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Oct. 27), “The memorial music concert commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of Yoon I-sang was held at Yoon I-sang Music Hall on Oct. 26.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Oct. 29), “The 11th Meeting of the South-North Committee for the Promotion of Economic Cooperation was held at the newly opened Consultation Office of the South-North Economic Cooperation within the Gaeseong Industrial Complex on Oct. 28.”
