Inside North Korea

The Central Broadcasting Service reported (Oct. 10), “A military parade took place at the Kim Il-sung Square on October 10, and was attended by Kim Jeong-il, Vice-Premier of the State Council of China Wu Yi, and presidential envoy to the Far East Region of the Russian Federation Konstantin Borisovich Pulikovski, as well as senior members of the WPK, the cabinet and the military.


In an editorial titled “60 years of a glorious history with great victories and epochal changes,” the Rodong Shinmun stated (Oct. 10), “The 60th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea is a landmark political event demonstrating the conviction and determination of the entire party, the military and the people in trying to complete the grand work of the Juche revolution.”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Oct. 14), “Chilgol Folk Customs Hall, built at Mangyeongdae, was opened to the public, and the hall will serve unique Korean dishes such as rice dumpling soup and cold noodles in accordance with the 24 seasonal divisions of the year.”

Outside North Korea

The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Oct. 11), “North Korea concluded a general agreement on cooperation in technology with the Chinese government on October 10 at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Oct. 14), “On October 14, Kim Jeong-il received Megawati Soekarnoputri, former president of Indonesia and chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle, and her entourage during her visit to North Korea on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea.”


The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service condemned Japan in an article titled “A futile attempt to gain a permanent seat on the UN Security Council” (Oct. 16), saying “Japan, a criminal nation of war, is a nation with an extremely poor political and ethical record, and its urgent task is to earn trust. Japan must sincerely commit to settling the past as soon as possible.”

Inter-Korean Issues

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service threatened (Oct. 13), “The pro-US, sycophantic forces that are opposed to the demolition of the statue of General Douglas MacArthur must not act rashly, citing gratitude and the like.”


In an editorial, the Pyongyang Broadcasting Service propagandized (Oct. 16), “The entire people of Korea must firmly realize the three forms of cooperation for national independence and peace, and for reunification and patriotism, defend the nation from foreign forces backed by the enormous power of a unified nation, safeguard the independence and peace of the nation, and achieve self-reliant unification.”
