Inside North Korea

The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 26), “A waterway was built between Baekma and Cheolsan, which paved the way for guaranteeing a natural flow of irrigation water for the plains in Gokchang, North Pyeongan Province without the assistance of electricity.”


The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service reported (Sept. 30), “The opening ceremony for the National Youth Science and Technology Exhibition celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the WPK was held at the Three-Revolution Exhibition Hall, and was attended by WPK Secretary Kim Joong-rin, Chairman of the National Academy of Sciences Byeong Yeong-rip, and others.”


The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service reported (Oct. 2), “On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the Korea Stamp Corporation issued 11 types of commemorative stamps (one individual stamp, two sheets and two sheetlets).”

Outside North Korea

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service reported (Sept. 27), “In the aftermath of Hurricane Rita, Texas and Louisiana in the United States suffered enormous damage, including dozens of submerged buildings and over two million residents left without electricity.”


The Pyongyang Broadcasting Station contended (Sept. 28), “Japan must sincerely apologize for having plundered and destroyed forestry resources on a massive scale, and our people will, without fail, settle accounts for the crimes of plundering and destroying our forestry resources.”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 29), “A government delegation of the People’s Republic of China headed by Wu Yi, vice-premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, will soon visit the DPRK on an official goodwill visit.”

Inter-Korean Issues

The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 30), “The Folk Cultural Festival for the Implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration was held at Mt. Geumgang on Sept. 28-29.”


In an editorial, the Pyongyang Broadcasting Service contended (Oct. 1), “The issue of reunification is a matter of achieving national solidarity, which essentially calls for the grand solidarity of the people.”
