Inside North Korea
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 19, Sept. 21-22, Sept. 24), “Kim Jeong-il gave on-site guidance at Moranbong Theatre, enjoyed performances by the art groups of KPA Units 630 and 526, visited the company of KPA Unit 916 and a power station constructed by KPA Unit 966, and enjoyed performances by the art groups of KPA Units 966 and 337.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 19), “A welcome reception for Gye Soon-hee, who has become the world judo champion in the 2005 World Judo Championships, was held on Sept. 19 at the People’s Palace of Culture, which was attended by WPK Secretary Kim Joong-rin and others.”
The Central Broadcasting Station emphasized (Sept. 21), “Reaping the autumn harvest well and on time is extremely crucial to producing results in agriculture this year, and all workers in the agricultural sector must concentrate and mobilize all forces in the harvest.”
Outside North Korea
A spokesperson for the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs contended in a statement on Sept. 20, “We (the DPRK) will return to the NPT immediately, and will conclude an agreement with the IAEA and fulfill it only after receiving a light-water reactor, which is the basis for building trust.” (Central Broadcasting Station)
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 22), “The 3rd Conference of the International Solidarity Council Demanding the Settlement of Japan’s Past opened in Pyongyang on Sept. 22, with delegations from North Korea, the Netherlands, and China participating.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 24), “The North Korean delegation headed by Yang Hyeong-seop, vice chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, arrived in Havana, Cuba on Sept. 22.”
Inter-Korean Issues
The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service contended (Sept. 19), “The objective of South Korea’s dispatch of forces to Iraq lies in stifling the DPRK by elevating the operational capacity of its troops, and South Korea must withdraw its forces from Iraq immediately.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 25), “The Status of Forces Agreement must be repealed at the earliest date possible.”
