Inside North Korea
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 15-18), “Kim Jeong-il, accompanied by Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea Kim Gi-nam and others, gave field guidance at the Gwangpo Duck Farm, the electric welding plant at the Dancheon Fireproof Materials Factory, Yusan Magnesium Fertilizer Factory, the Ryongseong Machine Complex, the Heungnam Pharmaceutical Factory and the Heungnam Fertilizer Factory (dates unreported).”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 14), “The 16th National Computer Program Contest and Exhibition took place on Sept. 13 at the Three Revolution Exhibition, which was attended by Workers’ Party Secretary Choe Tae-bok and Cabinet Prime Minister Noh Doo-cheol.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 18), “On the occasion of Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving), means of passenger transportation have been specially provided across the nation for the convenience of workers, while restaurants are preparing and serving unique folk dishes.”
Outside North Korea
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 14), “The DPRK delegation, headed by Vice Minister Choe Soo-heon, left Pyongyang on Sept. 14 to attend the 60th UN General Assembly.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 17), “A spokesperson for the DPRK delegation to the six-party talks held a press conference with regard to the US position of the DPRK’s return to the NPT first and offering it light-water reactors later, in which he disclosed our (the DPRK’s) fundamental principle that ‘the nuclear issue was resolved with the basic agreement in 1994.’”
Pyongyang Broadcasting Service stated (Sept. 17), “Japan has created an artificial stumbling block in the process of improving relations between North Korea and Japan. Japan should bear in mind that settling the past should become the basis for implementing the North Korea-Japan Pyongyang Declaration, and should act with discretion.”
Inter-Korean Issues
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 13), “A meeting was held by the North-South Korean Women’s Unification Alliance for Implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration, for the Struggle Against War, and for Peace in Pyongyang on Sept. 12, which was attended by female delegates from South Korea.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 13), “The South Korean delegation arrived in Pyongyang on Sept. 13 to participate in the 16th inter-Korean ministerial talks, and a banquet was arranged at the People’s Palace of Culture.”
