Inside North Korea

The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 1, Sept. 3-4), “Kim Jeong-il, accompanied by KPA generals Lee Myeong-su, Hyeon Cheol-hae, and Park Jae-gyeong, inspected Farm No. 1116 under KPA Unit 534, the subunit under KPA Unit 292, and KPA Unit 1652 (date unreported).”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 2), “The 32nd National Exhibition of Farm Machinery took place in Sukcheon County, South Pyeongam Province from Aug. 30-Sept. 1, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of North Korea (130 pieces of farm machinery of 41 kinds were on display).”


The Deputy Director of the Meteorological Institute under the Meteorological Observatory, appearing on Central TV on Sept. 4, said that torrential rain is expected in South Hamgyeong and Gangwon provinces on Sept. 7 as a result of Typhoon No. 14, and that measures should be taken to prevent damages.

Outside North Korea

In a press conference with the Central News Agency, a spokesperson for the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Aug. 29, “We (the DPRK) are prepared to hold the second stage of the fourth round of the six-party talks in the week of Sept. 12.” (Central Broadcasting Station)


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 3), “The North Korean legal delegation headed by Kim Byeong-ryul, Director of the Central Court, left Pyongyang on Sept. 3 to participate in the 22nd Congress on the Law of the World held in China.”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 4), “The North Korean Red Cross sent a letter to its US counterpart on Sept. 3 to express its condolences to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which recently struck the southern United States.”

Inter-Korean Issues

The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Aug. 31), “The groundbreaking ceremony for the Mt. Geumgang Reunion Center for separated families took place at Mount Geumgang, and was attended by North Korean Red Cross President Chang Jae-eon, South Korean Red Cross President Han Wan-sang, and others.”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 1), “The 16th Asian Track and Field Championships, attended by more than 1,160 persons from 45 nations, including North Korea, opened on Aug. 31 at Incheon Munhak Sports Complex.”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Sept. 2), “The South Korean Institute for Research in Collaborationist Activities and the editing committee of the Pro-Japanese Biographical Dictionary held a press conference on Aug. 29 and released a list of the pro-Japanese factions.”
