Inside North Korea
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Aug. 10), “The Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly decided (July 20) to issue two types of commemorative coins (gold and silver) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea as well as the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial rule.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Aug. 12), “A degree of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly was promulgated (Aug. 11) to ‘grant amnesty from September 1 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Korea and the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea and for the Cabinet to take measures to ensure that those who are pardoned settle into their work.’”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Aug. 14), “A National Meeting commemorating the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Korea took place at the Pyongyang Stadium, and was attended by the senior officials from the WPK, the cabinet and the military.
Outside North Korea
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Aug. 14) with regard to the 60th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in the war, “It is the stern ruling of the international community handed down on Japan in 2005 that there is no future for a militarist Japan, which is dashing toward aggression and war.’”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Aug. 14), “The ‘Global Rally Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Unification of Korea’ took place (Aug. 13-14) at the People’s Palace of Culture in Pyongyang, which was attended by the delegation teams from nations around the world dispatched from anti-war and peace organizations.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Aug. 14), “The ‘Plan for Cultural Exchanges from 2005 to 2007’ was signed on August 14 by the DPRK Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the cultural delegation of the Cambodian government.”
Inter-Korean Issues
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Aug. 10), “The 5th inter-Korean working-level contact for maritime cooperation was held in Munsan, South Korea from August 8 to August 10, and during the contact, the two sides issued a joint statement.”
The Central Broadcasting Station reported (Aug. 13), “The 4th inter-Korean working-level military talks took place on August 12 at the Tongilgak Pavilion on the northern side of the truce village of Panmunjeom.”
