Inside North Korea

The Central Broadcasting Station reported (June 28, 29), “In a government ordinance of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, Park Hyeok was appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Brazil, and Kim Seon-wook was appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Peru.”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (June 30), “The title of ‘Hero of the DPRK’ was bestowed on the late Ryu Gyeong-hwa, a student at Kim Cheol-ju College of Education who died after rescuing portraits of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jeong-il during a sudden fire early this year.”


The Central Broadcasting Station reported (July 2), “On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea published 145 joint slogans on July 2.”

Outside North Korea

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service condemned (June 29), “The acts of high-handedness and maneuvers to establish a monopolized order for world dominance on the part of the United States have led to the trampling of justice and fairness in international relations, and chaos in the world.”


The Central Broadcasting Station alleged (June 30), “The rhetoric of Masahiro Morioka, parliamentary secretary for health, labor and welfare, that the ‘verdicts by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East are unjust and that the Class-A war criminals are no longer regarded criminals in Japan’ clearly demonstrates maneuvers for resurrection by Japanese militarists.” It went on to say that the “Japan’s past crimes against humanity will be subject to the condemnation and persecution of all mankind.”

Inter-Korean Issues

The Central Broadcasting Station reported (June 30), “The conference for the merger of the International Taekwondo Federation and the World Taekwondo Federation was held in Beijing on June 27-28.”


The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service stated (July 2), “The present reality in which clashes of bilateral opinion regarding the South Korea-US alliance are intensifying demonstrates that the pro-US alliance of South Korea is no longer regarded as sacred and inviolable, but is being rejected as the dregs of outdated times that have outlived their fate.”
